STARBUCKS SETS SIGHTS ON GLOBAL DOMINANCE

Remember when there used to be a pub on every corner? Now it seems there’s a coffee shop on every corner instead – with Starbucks leading the market and planning to further its global dominance.

The coffee giant has unveiled a reorganisation of its global operation with the target to raise half of its revenues from outside the US.

Expansion

Currently, Starbucks gets 20 per cent of its revenues from overseas based on two business units – US and international. However, it will now expand this into three divisions – the Americas; China and Asia Pacific; and Europe and the rest of the world. It even has plans to enter Vietnam and India.

Starbucks has around 11,000 outlets in the US and Canada compared to 6,000 in the rest of the world. In particular, it is looking to increase its store openings in China and Brazil.

In recent times, Starbucks has undergone something of a transformation by closing under performing stores and extending the company into selling pre-packed coffee in supermarkets. In January, it also dropped the word “coffee” from its logo as it decided to extend the range of drinks it sells.

Anyone for coffee?

While Starbucks may have a firm grip on high street coffee sales, the online drinks market is much more competitive with a host of firms vying for business.

Among them are the likes of Café Britt, Coffees of Hawaii, Home Brew Online, Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee and Shock Coffee, all of which publish voucher codes at 5hop5.ie allowing thirsty customers to make quick savings.
