VIRGIN STRIKE THREAT FLYS AWAY

Travellers who had booked flights with Virgin Atlantic for their summer holidays can breathe a sigh of relief after the airline pilots’ union Balpa announced it would be lifting the threat of strike action.

According to Balpa, it has secured a new offer from the airline which will be presented to its members in the coming weeks – details of the offer have not yet been revealed.

Dispute

It was just last month that Virgin’s pilots voted overwhelmingly to go on strike for the first time in the airline’s history following a dispute about pay.

According to Balpa general secretary Jim McAuslan, there has never been any aim to cause inconvenience to the travelling public and this is the main reason why the threat of strike action has been lifted. The move comes after Sir Richard Branson, the boss of Virgin, had warned that any strike action may leave an “indelible scar” on the airline.

Flight deals

Travellers can now book a Virgin airline flight with confidence, but to ensure they are getting real value for money they should make more of an effort to shop around.

Approaching airlines directly can be a money saver, particularly if you take advantage of the voucher codes published at websites such as 5hop5.ie. Booking in advance will also normally lead to cheaper deals.

However, it’s still worth using comparison websites and flight scanners to compare deals from multiple airlines. Look into prices for both package holidays and individual deals on hotels and flights to ensure you’re getting a suitable offer.
