That’s
because Sony has introduced its Tablet S with Google’s market leading operating
system Android and a wedge-shaped design as it bids to rival its American
counterpart.
Best so far
Manufacturers
such as Samsung and HTC have all released their own tablets following the
overwhelming success of the Apple iPad. However, the Sony Tablet S may be the
first serious challenger after Abhishek Chauhan, the associate director at
Frost and Sullivan, described it as the “best Android tablet so far”.
It
boasts a number of unique features that are not available in other devices. For
example, the hardware design is different from most flat, thin tablets and this
shifts its weight closer to your palm so that it feels lighter and is more
comfortable while reading a book or magazine. Other features include the
ability to play PlayStation games on the device and stream music and video to
your TV or home entertainment system.
However,
despite his glowing recommendation, Chauhan still feels that Sony has some
catching up to do when it comes to Apple. He states it still “lags behind” the
iPad II in terms of ease of use, as well as availability of tablet-specific
applications.
First mover
Apple
appears to have the advantage as the first mover in the market – its brand
appeal means it is ahead of its rivals. Now the pressure appears to be on the
likes of Sony and Samsung to offer a truly compelling reason for consumers to
pick their devices ahead of the established Apple brand.
