BURBERRY PROVES IT IS IN FASHION

The fashion industry is fickle at the best of the times. However, it seems that Burberry has been very much “in” during 2011.
The retailer has reported a 30 per cent rise in revenues over the last six months, after enjoying strong growth across all of its markets.

Rapid growth

Best known for its red, black and camel check design, Burberry enjoyed revenues of £830million for the six months ending September 30, with like-for-like retail sales increasing by 16 per cent.

Despite the rapid growth, shares in the company actually dropped due to concerns from investors about its ability to sustain its expansion in developing markets such as China. However, the retailer, which has been making raincoats and handbags for 155 years, believes there is no sign of a slowdown.

It currently has 187 stores, 44 outlet shops and 52 franchises, with chief executive Angela Ahrendts highlighting that the company is “fully prepared to act appropriately” should there be a drop in luxury demand.
